Where to Invest Your Wedding Budget in 2026 and 2027 (And the Hidden Costs
Couples Often Overlook)
Planning a wedding in 2026 or 2027 comes with more choice, inspiration and possibility
than ever before. But … it also comes with an enormous amount of information, which
can make it surprisingly difficult to know where your budget should actually go!
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is the assumption that luxury weddings are
simply about spending more. In reality, the most memorable celebrations are usually the
most thoughtfully allocated.
The atmosphere, the guest experience and the overall flow of the day will always leave a
longer impression than excess for the sake of it. And, over the years, I’ve learned that
some of the most important investments are often the least obvious at the beginning of
the planning process.
Lighting is one of the best examples.
Couples understandably focus first on flowers, tables and décor, but lighting is often
what transforms a room entirely. It shapes atmosphere, warmth and energy. The most
beautiful florals in the world can feel flat in the wrong lighting, while a thoughtfully lit
room immediately feels elevated, immersive and considered.
The same applies to entertainment, guest flow and styling. These are the details that
change how people experience the celebration itself.
There are also the hidden costs that many couples simply wouldn’t know to account for
until they are deep into planning!
Florals are a common example. Beyond the flowers themselves, there are often setup
fees, de-rig costs, transport charges and installation logistics that need to be factored
into the budget from the start.
Hotels can also vary enormously once additional requirements are considered. Room
flips, staffing extensions, supplier access times, late-night service, storage and setup
logistics all contribute to the final picture.
None of these details are glamorous, but all of them matter.
This is where strategic planning becomes incredibly valuable.
A large part of my role is helping clients understand where the experience actually lives.
Not every element needs a huge budget, but the right elements absolutely deserve
investment. More and more couples are prioritising atmosphere, entertainment,
immersive dining and guest comfort over trends that feel temporary or overly
performative.
And often …. having an experienced planner involved protects the budget far more than
people expect. I know this because of the ROI that my clients often tell me about in their
feedback.
Through long-standing relationships with trusted suppliers across Ireland and the UK,
I’m able to guide clients towards the right decisions, negotiate where appropriate and
help avoid unnecessary spend or duplicated costs. It also means fewer surprises later in
the process.
The goal is never to spend more for the sake of it; it’s to create a wedding that feels
seamless, personal and genuinely unforgettable. The weddings people remember most
are rarely the ones with the biggest budgets. They are the ones where everything felt
considered.
If you’re planning your 2026 or 2027 wedding and want support navigating budgets,
priorities and the details that often go unseen, I’d love to help guide the process.
